FAMILY and STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES
As you might recall, we have collaborated with Fennville and Glen Public Schools to offer family and student mental health support in western Allegan County. Through this collaboration, we’ve partnered with Pine Rest Mental Health Services. Raeylynn Jimenez will be in our area each Monday and Friday to provide support for our community. If you are interested in speaking with her, please call or email Marty [email@example.com] to get more information. This service is a great example of what a community can provide when we pool our resources together; please consider using it.
PICTURE DAY – OCTOBER 7TH
Student pictures will be taken on October 7th. Please look for the flyer that was sent home with your child. Contact your child’s teacher for another copy if needed. If you child(ren) attend VAAC, please contact Marty to make arrangements for pictures.
Please continue to look for emails, visit the Facebook page, and find information on the website from the Virtual Academy of Allegan County. Digital communication will be the primary tool. Please reach out to your VAAC teacher if you have any questions.
BREAKFAST and LUNCH
Each Thursday from 4:00 – 4:30 at the Fennville Elementary School you can pick up five days worth of breakfast and lunch for your child attending VAAC. Please pull into the circular drive and someone will help you.
For the most part, kids have been doing a great job of wearing their masks appropriately throughout the day! Thank you!
If you wouldn’t mind taking a moment to check with your kiddo on the fit of his/her mask, that would be great! Have them place it on their face as they would do in class. This way you can help with any adjustments so that it fits snugly over their mouth and nose. If you have an extra to throw in their backpack, that would be great – just in case they forget one in the morning or maybe have an incredibly wicked sneeze at some point during the day – or maybe would just enjoy a fresh one to change into later in the day.
Unfortunately, we are entering the season of horrible allergies, colds and flu. If your child is suffering from any of the symptoms, below, that are NOT related to seasonal allergies, they should be kept home until symptoms are no longer present without the use of medication.
- Runny nose and/or congestion
- Tired and/or achy
- Short of breath
- New loss of taste and or smell
COVID-19 EXECUTIVE ORDER – EFFECTIVE BEGINNING ON MONDAY
Last week Executive Order 2020-185 was signed requiring all Michigan students in grades kindergarten and up to wear protective face masks when in classrooms of schools in Phase 4 of the MI Safe Start Plan. Our younger friends have been doing a great job in building up their stamina for this tweak to all day mask wearing beginning on Monday.
ONLINE TUTORING SESSIONS OFFERED BY GVSU
GVSU K-12 Connect Virtual Tutoring is available for any student in grades K-12 beginning on October 5th, 2020. This program is a free, virtual 1:1 tutoring service in which students can harness additional learning support through connecting with university students faculty, or staff with expertise in various subjects. All sessions will be held through Zoom. Whether you are looking for a one-time appointment or recurring, weekly sessions, the tutoring center can accommodate any student’s tutoring needs.
They also provide free college-prep mentoring for 11th-12th grade students!
If you and your chld(ren) would like to sell candy bars to help with your field trip funds, please make sure to return the signed permission slip by October 6th. If you did not get a permission slip, please contact your child’s teacher; one box of candy bars will come home with your child on October 6th if you turned in a permission slip.
VIRTUAL/VIDEO INFORMATION RESOURCES
There has been a slight change in how we will communicate some fun and informational “need-to-knows” of the classroom and school. We will have videos available on our Parent Facebook group from teachers and staff during the week of October 12th. In the meantime, please feel free to call the school or email your child(ren)’s teacher if you have any questions.
